Privacy, PIPA and PIPEDA
Hosting at CompleteCloud makes sense from a privacy perspective. Our datacenter is located in Calgary, Alberta. For companies that are concerned about data residency, locating your data within Calgary and/or Alberta may be a regulatory requirement for your industry, or a nice to have.
Privacy legislation to be aware of:
Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) is legislation which sets out the ground rules for how private-sector organizations may collect, use or disclose information about individuals. If you host your data with CompleteCloud, you benefit from the residency and location of your data within Alberta Borders.
The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) sets out ground rules for how private sector organizations may collect, use or disclose personal information in the course of commercial activities. PIPEDA also applies to federal works, undertakings and businesses in respect of employee personal information. The law gives individuals the right to access and request correction of the personal information these organizations may have collected about them.
If you host your data with CompleteCloud, you benefit from the residency and location of your data within Alberta and Canadian Borders. It’s a great first step to ensuring compliance with both of these pieces of legislation!
